Why Clinical Pilates?
Is it right for me?
Where it all started.
Joseph Pilates, the founder of the Pilates method, crafted his revolutionary approach to fitness and well-being in early twentieth-century Europe. Born in Germany, Pilates endured childhood illnesses that fueled his dedication to health and exercise. Drawing from diverse disciplines, including anatomy, Eastern and Western exercises, and engineering, Pilates developed a system to restore physical vitality, correct posture, and invigorate the mind.
During World War I, Pilates refined his techniques while interning at a German camp, laying the groundwork for what would become Pilates Matwork. Post-war, Pilates continued to innovate, experimenting with equipment like springs and pulleys to aid rehabilitation.
Upon relocating to New York City, Pilates's method gained popularity among the professional dance community. His philosophy, emphasising the body's transformative potential, laid the foundation for what we now know as Clinical Pilates—a personalised approach to health and wellness integrating Pilates principles with modern knowledge.
